About USYC:

Formerly known as the Ambassador’s Youth Advisory Council, the U.S. Embassy Youth Council is a group of young Nepalese people between the age group of 18 to 27 representing various background, ethnicity, religion, profession and gender. The council was created by the Embassy of the United States of America to Nepal and was initiated in 2011 by former U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, H.E. Scott H. DeLisi. 

The USYC was primarily established to inform the U.S. Embassy about the challenges young Nepalese face and what can be done to address them, and to encourage participation by council members in their communities and the larger civil society.

Q. What are the benefits of becoming a USYC Member?

A: The U.S. Embassy Youth Council offers a platform for its members to directly engage & network with the U.S. Embassy, partner youth council members, and various stake holders of Nepal from diversified fields including Politics, Corporate, Sports, Bureaucracy, etc.
Furthermore, the USYC provides an opportunity for its members to implement Civic Engagement Projects funded by the U.S. Embassy. The USYC Members are engaged in various activities including Community Service, Training of various kinds, and cultural activities.

Q. Who is eligible to apply?
A: Any Nepalese citizen that is residing in Nepal among the age group of 18 to 27 is eligible to apply.

Q. How much time does a member have to commit for USYC Activities?
A: Throughout the year, there are various programs and activities conducted for the USYC members. It is mandatory for a member to attend the 3 Days Orientation Program that is held at the beginning of the batch. While other programs are optional, it is highly recommended that the member keeps him/herself engaged in the USYC.
Q. I live outside the Kathmandu valley. Am I eligible to apply?
A: Yes. The USYC application is open to eligible individuals all across the country.
Q. How many members are there in the USYC?
A: Each batch of USYC has approximately 50 members.
Q. How long is USYC Membership Term?
A: USYC Members serve for a one year long tenure. After the end of the batch, they are recognized as USYC Alumni.
Q. Who manages the USYC Nepal?
A: The USYC is funded by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy. At the present, it is managed by We Inspire Nepal – an NGO that aims in strengthening people and society through innovative training, inspiring campaigns and policy level advocacies.
